Op doorreis naar Sabah
Dinsdag 19 januari (
Net voordat we wilden gaan slapen zag Carolien een kakkerlak door de badkamer naar het bed lopen. Ze probeerde hem de deur uit te krijgen maar in no time zat hij onder het bed en stond Carolien erop. Martijn begreep de boodschap en na wat kunst- en vliegwerk liet Martijn de kakkerlak netjes de deur uit. We konden rustig en zonder zorgen gaan slapen..
Woensdag 20 februari
Gelukkig vlogen we zes uur in de avond en waren we dus niet afhankelijk van onze wekker (telefoon).
In de middag hadden we voor wat vietnamese dong wat maleise ringit gewisseld en namen we vervolgens de taxi naar het vliegveld. We waren er behoorlijk vroeg en doken onze leesboeken in. Niet lang daarna konden we inchecken en bedongen we twee plaatsen bij de nooduitgang (dachten we). Het wachtwerk werd ingevuld door onze leesboeken en het spelen van een aantal potjes kaarten, na de laatste controle konden we het vliegtuig in.
Het bleek dat we stoelen hadden gekregen die een rij voor de nooduitgang waren geplaatst. De beenruimte was dus normaal en met het nadeel dat de stoelen niet naar achteren kunnen worden ingesteld (nooduitgangprocedure). Toen de passagier voor Martijn zijn stoel na het opstijgen naar achteren instelde, hield Martijn het voor gezien en ging aan de andere kant van het vliegtuig alsnog bij de nooduitgang zitten. We zijn bijna in Maleisie dus: Als de berg niet naar Mohammed komt, moet Mohammed maar naar de berg toe zullen we maar zeggen.
Halverwege de vlucht kregen we de entry card voor
Aangekomen in
Na het inchecken in onze gedeelde kamer (samen met een Nieuw Zeelander en een Engelse). Zijn we de straat opgegaan (inmiddels was het 23.15 uur).
Op de heenweg naar ons hostel kwamen we een inmens gebouw tegen, opgetrokken uit de meest duurste materialen en vormgegeven in een art-nouveau sttijl. We liepen deze keer het terrein op en zagen aan de fontein dat het complex m.b.v. feng shui was opgezet. Feng shui staat voor het in balans zijn met de omgeving en het op een juiste manier inrichten van energievelden. Een fontein is voor Chinezen (feng shui beoefenaars) het symbool van geld. Als een fontein naar buiten is gericht, stroomt het geld weg (slecht). Een fontein dient dus altijd naar binnen gericht te worden, zo ook deze.
Bij de voorkant aangekomen zagen we een inmense grootse en hoge ruimte. Het bleek, kwamen we later achter, een jazzclub te zijn. Aan de rechterkant was een bar gestationeerd met als achterkant een gigantisch hoge wand met wijn. Als iemand een fles bestelde dan klonk de bediende zich vast aan een touw en liet zich opheizen om vervolgens op acrobatische wijze de wijnfles weer naar beneden mee te nemen. Helaas was het gebouw zelf gesloten en kwamen we via via achter deze informatie. Het complex
We hadden er graag gegeten, maar aan de andere kant had dat niet goed gedaan voor ons budget. We speelden maar op zeker door bij een zekere meneer Donalds een menu te bestellen. Onze bediende bracht op zeer acrobatische wijze vijf verschillende sausen op tafel, of we ze allemaal wilde proeven.. Zo zie je maar, elk etablissement heeft zo zijn eigen performance!
Terug op onze kamer lagen we in ons stapelbed naar een soort kruizing tussen southpark en de simpsons te kijken. De engelse dame had deze op haar ipod gedownload. Erg leuk en we hebben erg gelachen voor dat het licht uit ging.
Donderdag 21 februari
Al vroeg namen we de bus naar Johor Bahru. Zoals te verwachten ging het allemaal vlekkeloos. We waren tijdens de busreis erg onder de indruk van de schoonheid van
Vrijdag 22 februari
Toen we in JB nog even gingen shoppen voor wat versnaperingen tijdens de reis, werden we verrast door de luide muziek. Eerst een tijdje Indiaas maar al gauw dreunde de bas door de speakers en nam iemand de microfoon in de hand om met veel gevoel voor performance de aanbiedingen mee te delen. De rondlopende hoofddoekjes keken niet op of om dus dit was blijkbaar normale kost. We hebben er maar even een filmpje van gemaakt. Eenmaal in de kleurige shuttlebus naar het vliegveld,begonnen we aan een appel. Deze bleek uit Amerika geimporteerd te zijn. Carolien had nog nooit een Amerikaanse appel gegeten dus die bestudeerde deze eerst grondig. De conclusie: de appel zag er echt Amerikaans uit: rode kleur en gladde huid (is er botox in het spel?).
Ook vandaag pakten we dus het vliegtuig, deze keer naar voorlopig de laatste bestemming,

Wauw!! mooi allemaal!! Martijn blijft ondeugend kijken op foto’s….is ook nooit anders geweest…en dat: kabamm!!!! Komt me ook érg bekend voor….hé Martijntje…je weet nou toch wel dat je bijna 2 meter bent!!??!!

Vandaag(maandag) weer een heerlijke verrassing uit jullie pretpakket opgeduikeld (om maar in jullie vakjargon te blijven…)

Selemat datang in Maleisië, betekent welkom! (ja ook ik spreek een aardig woordje maleisisch). Wat geweldig en herkenbaar allemaal. Ik heb inmiddels al vier keer de grensovertocht bij Singapore JB gemaakt. Het blijft elke keer weer geweldig! Die aziaten zijn ook fantiek stempelaars. Ook jullie reis richting Borneo hebben we via JB gedaan. Helemaal super. Jammer dat jullie niet even zijn blijven hangen in Kota Kinabalu. Tip: doe een toch op de Kinabantangan river. Dan zul je allemaal soort neushoornvogels en de famous dutchman (de neusaap) zien! En ga vooral niet naar stad Sandakan. Daar wil je nog niet eens dood gevonden worden. Tippie mijner zijds. Nou jongelui doe de groeten aan de turtles en nudy branches (die zul je daar heeeeel veel zien). Groetjes Petra

Oh oh oh wat zullen jullie weer heerlijk genieten op zo’n tropisch eiland.
Ik heb even op google earth gekeken en het is sprookjesachtig. Geweldige foto’s staan er.
En idd, heel veel schildpadden te zien.
Maar ook de stranden…..en dan vandaag op deze dinsdagochtend in het Kalf, een buitje uit een grijze lucht en een windje dat een beetje loeit.
Wàt een verschil is dat dan met jullie.
Oh en ik heb ook de foto’s van de neushoornvogels gezien die bij de Kinabantangan river staan. Ook helemaal leuk.
Wel in de boot blijven zitten. Ik loop nu alweer op de reis vooruit, eerst lekker duiken.
