Cultureel doen in Kyoto
De culturele hoofdstad van Japan.
Kyoto? Ook deze stad klinkt weer zo bekend in de oren! Waar ken je het toch van? Denk eens aan het wereldberoemde Kyotoprotocol (klimaatverdrag) die, de twee grootste industriele machten, Amerika en China niet hebben willen ondertekenen. Daarnaast is het de culturele hoofdstad van Japan met een ontzettende hoeveelheid aan tempels, kastelen en pagoda’s.
Aan het einde van de tweede wereldoorlog stond Kyoto naast Hiroshima en Nagasaki hoog op de lijst om te worden gebombardeerd met een atoomboom. Gelukkig is Japan, ondanks de twee gedropte atoombommen dit gespaard gebleven en kan iedereen het culturele erfgoed van Japan tot op de dag van vandaag aanschouwen.
Maandag hadden we nog niet veel zin om cultuur op te snuiven want we waren brak van alle reisindrukken veroorzaakt door een druk schema en een slechte nachtrust: een van onze roomies bleek kampioen snurken. Maandag werd onze chilldag en laadden we onze batterijen op.
Helaas was het dinsdag erg regenachtig weer waardoor we ons plan, een fiets huren en de diverse bezienswaardigheden bezoeken, aanpasten naar woensdag. Wel gingen we naar een tempel die gemakkelijk was te bereiken met de metro, de Fushimi Inari tempel. Genoemd naar de ontelbare poorten die helemaal tot hoog op de berg over het pad heen staan. Een hele klim en een fantastisch gezicht. De poorten worden gedoneerd door mensen die hiermee (uiteraard) geluk hopen af te dwingen.
Gelukkig klaarde het weer daarna wat op en konden we ongestoord Geischa’s en hun leerlingen bekijken in het Gion district. Tevreden met een aantal mooie plaatjes liepen we terug naar het hostel. s’Avonds gingen we op zoek naar een Italiaans restaurant, we aten uiteindelijk echter sushi en kwamen terug met een Macbook pro. Wat ging hier mis? Niks. We houden gewoon van een ‘change of plans’ en een mooie, zo goed als nieuwe, mac voor 700 euro konden we niet laten liggen.
Woensdag was een prachtige dag waarop het land van de rijzende zon haar naam eer aan deed. We waren na een gebroken slaap (veel gesnurk deze nacht) op tijd op en huurden een fiets. We reden een toeristische route door het Himoschya district. Een stuk vol met tempels en ouderwetse straatjes. Sommige tempels waren erg indrukwekkend zoals de Sanyusangen-do. Waarin maar liefst 1001(!) met goud bepleisterde boedha’s van 164 cm hoog en allerlei mythische figuren staan om 1 enorme boedha met 42 armen te beschermen. Toch genoten we het meest van de schoonheid en rust van de tuin van de Heian shrine. De irisen, waterlelies en heggen stonden vollop in bloei en alles was met veel gevoel voor design aangelegd. En dat al honderden jaren geleden. Prachtige Japanse taferelen om te aanschouwen en zeer geschikt voor fotosessies. Daarna zijn we nog verder door de stad Kyoto gereden en hebben we ware Geisha’s gespot. Als laatste bezochten we nog een indrukwekkend kasteel dat als verblijfplaats diende voor de uit Tokio bezoekende Shogun. Het was van alle pracht en praal voorzien. Alles gelijkvloers met prachtige daken en veel detail. Ruime kamers, uiteraard allemaal met schuifdeuren en prachtige schilderingen van wilde dieren en mooie bomen. Het mooiste vonden wij echter de nachtegaalvloeren. Zelfs de meest stealth 007 zou daar niet ongemerkt overheen kunnen lopen (laat staan 0013). Het kraakt en piept namelijk constant. Daarnaast waren de rijstpapieren deuren zo gemaakt dat een luistervink te ontdekken was door zijn schaduw. Al met al weer een topdag!
Osaka
Donderdag zijn we naar Osaka vertrokken om vanaf hier de boot naar Shanghai te pakken. Hier hebben we de neonverlichte stad nog bewonderd vanaf 150 meter hoog en eindelijk bij de Italiaan gegeten en je verwacht het niet maar zelfs de pizza wordt met stokjes gegeten. Al het wandelen, fietsen en sightseeen hakt er behoorlijk in en we zien dan ook uit naar 2 volle dagen op de boot lekker niks hoeven en veel slapen. Nu hebben we daar best en worst case scenario’s over gehoord en we hopen niet op rochelende, rokende Chinezen en wel op een kamer met z’n tweeen. We zullen zien!
Wat we opmerkelijk vonden aan Japan..
1. Overal staan er frisdrankautomaten en bierautomaten die je op elk willekeurig moment kan gebruiken
2. In de metro heb je speciale vrouwencoupes, Japanse mannen blijken namelijk zeer geoefende billenknijpers te zijn.
3. De toiletten zijn hier extreme gadgets met brilverwarming, billensproei en doorspoelgeluidjes om af te spelen.
4. Ondanks dat in dit land alles nog even wat meer geautomatiseerd is dan in Nederland kan je als je een kaartje koopt voor de metro op een knopje voor assistentie drukken en vervolgens komt er een man uit het apparaat om je te helpen (dat zien we de NS nog niet doen).
5. De bullettrain, de mobieltjes die uitstaan en keurig in de rij.
6. Pinnen kan maar bij 1 bank en van internetbankieren hebben zo nog nooit van gehoord.
7. De hoeveelheid mensen in pak (en aan het werk) op zondag, de enorme werkdruk en het hoge zelfmoordcijfer.
8. De veiligheid, vrouwen met de portomonnee open en voor het grijpen in de tas, kids die nog laat alleen naar huis kunnen lopen.
9. Het spelen van arcadespellen door voornamelijk (99%) volwassenen.
10. We hebben hier de raarste kamergenoten gehad ooit (waren overigens geen Japanners).

Helemaal leuk weer om te lezen, gisteren natuurlijk al de foto’s van Japan gezien.
De filmpjes van Nieuw Zeeland op de ceedee zijn weer enig.
Jammer van de harde wind op de boot. Daar waren jullie de toekomstplanning aan het vertellen, je weet wel samen oud worden en zo.
Maar waar staat dat getal 3 voor? Die uitleg werd door de wind weggewaaid.
Nou ja ik hoor dat wel als jullie weer thuis zijn.
Ik ga naar het volgende verhaal, nee eerst Rosa en Nelson eten geven. Rosa kan echt niet harder zuchten en gaat nu over op piepen.
